US Department of Labor Slow to Address Unresolved Issues

March 09, 2005

Ken Stern attended the PERM briefing in Washington, D.C. on February 3. At that time, USDOL collected a number of questions and highlighted a number of unresolved issues and promised to address questions and issues prior to March 28. Although the USDOL recently launched its PERM web page (www.plc.doleta.gov), it has not provided additional information or clarification of a number of important areas.

USDOL has reported, however, that as of February 4, 2005, 25 state workforce agencies shipped more than 90,000 cases to either the Philadelphia or Dallas Backlog Processing Centers. The second phase of transferring cases to the backlog center will be completed by March 31, 2005. The U.S. Department of Labor had advised state workforce agencies that they should not process any permanent labor certification applications postmarked after December 31, 2004.
