AR-11 Address Change Notification Information
October 02, 2002
The Immigration and Naturalization Service has begun enforcing a regulation which requires all Non-US citizens residing in the United States to submit a Form AR-11 within ten days of a change to their residential address. If you do not submit a Form AR-11 within 10 days of changing your address, you may risk criminal conviction and/or deportation. Please be aware that filing this form is your responsibility, and our firm cannot submit it on your behalf.
A Form AR-11can be downloaded from the INS website at http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/index.htm. Within ten days of a change to your residential address you should submit Form AR-11 to the address on the form. You should keep a copy of the completed form for your records. Please submit the Form AR-11 using a mailing method that confirms delivery, such as Express Mail, Federal Express, Certified/Registered mail, etc. It is important to keep confirmation of delivery with the copy of the completed form that you submitted.
Our firm recommends that if you are not a US citizen and you have never previously submitted a Form AR-11, you should do so now reflecting your current address. In the future, please be sure to submit a new AR-11 within ten days of a change to your residential address.
Submitting the Form AR-11 to INS as directed satisfies the regulatory requirements regarding change of address notification. However, submitting this form will not update the INS Regional Service Center's database with your correct contact information. If you have any application pending at the INS please be sure to notify our office of any change to your address. If you do not have a pending application, but are awaiting a permanent resident card, or other evidence of immigrant status, please also be sure to keep our office apprised of your current address.
Immigration law and its enforcement can change rapidly, and it is important that you keep yourself informed of any new developments. In the future please refer to the numerous immigration information sources available to you for updates in immigration law that may affect your status. Internet resources that you may consult include www.sternelkind.com, http://www.uscis.gov, etc.
