F-1/J-1/M-1 Visas (Students)

Individuals who wish to study in the U.S. have these three options:

  • M-1 visas - for vocational study or training at a U.S. institution
  • J-1 visas - traditionally for researchers or professors, but may also be used by graduate students or those who want to participate in an exchange program
  • F-1 visas - the most common student visas, they allow you to study and complete a degree at a U.S. public high school or accredited U.S. college or university, or study English at a university or language institute
    • When you've been admitted to an institution of learning, the institution generally sends you information about applying for the appropriate visa. The institution will also provide you with the documentation you will need to present to the U.S. Consulate to get your visa
