An L-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows companies operating both in the United States and abroad to transfer certain classes of employees from their foreign operations to their U.S. operations.
To qualify for this visa, an individual must have worked for the foreign operation for at least one out of the last three years.
There are two types of L-1 visas:
- The L1-A visa is for managers and executives, and can be issued for a maximum of seven years.
- The L1-B visa is for individuals who have specialized knowledge of the processes and procedures of the employer's business both abroad and in the U.S. This visa is limited to five years.
